For centuries, across cultures and species, new mothers have ingested their placenta after delivery—some for ritual purposes and some spiritual—to replenish much-needed nutrients, mainly iron and protein. In addition to the above, consuming the placenta post-birth may help:

Encourage oxytocin release
Encourage nutrient- rich breastmilk production and flow
Decrease the probability of developing postpartum depression
Increase energy

Commonly referred to as the “closing of the bones,” this retreat provides a time out for the new parent to witness their transformation from maiden to mother while having their body “closed.” By sequentially wrapping the body with a long scarf—which literally feels like a big hug from head to toe!—we close the body after having been a portal to new. Other elements of the visit may include: tea and intention setting, space clearing, moxa treatment, realignment of the birth energy field, bodywork, herbal spiritual bath, a nourishing snack and/or a prepared meal.
