Sanctuary Cares is a nonprofit organization providing affordable and accessible maternal and infant care to families, regardless of income, in the critical stages before and after birth to strengthen the overall health and wellbeing of the mother, the baby and the family connection.

We provide fully or partially subsidized care, made possible through a combination of private and public funding. As a community, we are also committed to advocating for systemic change in pursuit of improving maternal and infant outcomes for all families, especially those most marginalized.

Sanctuary Cares believes that the current medical system is abandoning mothers and babies immediately after birth, leaving them vulnerable and without resources during a critical period for their recovery and the early development of the baby. These disparities are drastically greater for families with lower income, under or uninsured, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities, often putting their safety and lives at risk.

So everyday, Sanctuary Cares provides fully or partially subsidized maternal and infant care plans to meet the unique emotional, physical and informational needs of each family. From overnight visits, to feeding support, mental health counseling and connections to local resources, our team wraps every family in a custom-created community of care.

Because when a family feels calm, confident and capable during the early stages of life, they are able to provide the love and care their baby needs and form deep connections that last a lifetime.

How does funding/payment work?

There are several ways that your care can be partially or fully funded or subsidized. Here’s how the process works:

  1. The first step is to fill out our Sanctuary Cares application below.

  2. The second step is to set up call with us by clicking here. On the call, we’ll explain our services and hear more about you and your family. Together on that call we’ll determine a plan for your care.

  3. Once we have that plan, we’ll determine the best funding opportunities, which could include:

  • Receiving support from our practitioners who offer sliding scale and no-cost services.

  • As funding becomes available in 2024, we hope to be able to fund a care plan that will support your family.

  • Partial sponsorships from local nonprofit, The Abundance Project, for birth and/or postpartum doula care. The basic qualification for these sponsorships is birthing person receiving Medicaid benefits.
